Derek Morgan

Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Activities

BS - Interpersonal Communication, University of Evansville (1994)
MS - Student Affairs in Higher Education, Colorado State University (2000)

Duties:

  • Advises ASCSM (Student Government)
  • Manages all Student Judicial Issues
  • Coordinates Academic Re-admission Process
  • Coordinates the Student Academic Misconduct Process
  • Manages the CSM Alcohol Policy
  • Oversees Student Activities, Minority Engineering and BlasterCard programs
  • Programs special events after the Common-Hour Exams

Personal Points of Interest:
When I'm not here at Mines, I like to hang out with family and friends. My wife, Andrea, and I are enjoying watching our daughter, Noa Mae, grow up. Additionally, getting out in the Colorado outdoors is a favorite as there is so much hiking, mountain biking, and camping to do here. I also enjoy sports. Golf, running, and volleyball are the sports I like to play. However, hockey is my favorite to watch. Go Avalanche! 


Marie Hornickel

Associate Director of Student Activities for Campus Programs

Hometown: Jefferson, WI

Education:
BA - Music, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (1998)
MS - Counseling and Student Personnel, Minnesota State University, Mankato (2003)

Duties:

  • Advises Mines Activity Council
  • Responsible for coordinating campus events & programs including Parents & Family Weekend, E-Days, Homecoming, etc.
  • Plans New Student Orientation and Parent Orientation
  • Teaches Leadership Class (MSGN497)
  • Assists with office programs

Personal Points of Interest:
My husband and I moved here 5 years ago from WI and are having the times of our lives!  (Go Packers!!)  We had our first child last year and are loving being parents.  I enjoy camping, skiing, playing volleyball and playing piano.  I also love to watch "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Gray's Anatomy".


Travis Smith

Associate Director of Student Activities for Student Activities

Hometown: Newark, OH

Education:
BHS- Pre Physical Therapy, University of Miami (FL) (2004)
MS- Student Affairs, Eastern Illinois University

Duties:

  • Advise the Greek Community consisting of 3 sororities and 7 fraternities
  • Provide support for the CSM Board of Student Organizations
  • Provide financial oversight of all student organization accounts.
  • Oversee development and management of officially recognized student organizations.
  • Plan and implement campus programs including Celebration of Mines and Awards Banquet.
  • Review and approve all contracts related to student organizations.
  • Revise and implement Student Activities policies and procedures.

Personal Points of Interest:
So far I have visited 33 states. I am still fascinated by the mountains and smile every time I walk across campus and see them. Food is one of my passions, (favorites include Sushi, Indian, and Pizza), and I enjoy cooking. For sport I enjoy Golf and Volleyball, am looking to get back into skiing or possibly learn to snowboard. When I am not on campus I am looking forward to taking in all the Denver area has to offer.


Nanci Bliss-Kelley

Program Assistant

Hometown: Long Beach, CA

Education:
BA - Communication, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (2002)
MA - Curriculum & Instruction, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs

Duties:

  • Responsible for the smooth operation of the Student Activities and BlasterCard Office business
  • Point person for student excused absences
  • Responsible for campus organization and Student Activities accounting needs
  • Coordinates the weekly "What's Happening" and other club advertising
  • Supervises the Student Activities and BlasterCard Office student workers

Personal Points of Interest:
I'm originally from Southern California and grew up 10 miles from Huntington Beach and Seal Beach.  My claim to fame was my first job at age 18-I was employed by Disneyland where I worked in Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and at Country Bear Jamboree!  My hobbies are reading, sewing, camping, and traveling.  But most importantly are my extraordinary grandkids-they come before all other interests!
