Environmental Health & Safety Department
Chemical Hygiene and Procurement Program
The Chemical Storage and Distribution Facility (CSDF) and the office of the Chemical Hygiene Officer provide support to the campus regarding purchases, storage, and handling of chemicals and hazardous materials used throughout the campus.
Environmental Health Program
The Environmental Health Program provides support to the campus by providing Hazardous Waste and Biological Waste management services. The program provides annual Hazardous Waste Generator Training and quarterly waste water sampling.
Fire and Life Safety
The goal of the Fire and Life Safety Program is to protect CSM Students and employees from injury or death resulting from the use of shop or other, non-laboratory equipment and facilities or from structure fires.
Laboratory Safety Program
The Laboratory Safety Program provides guidance to proper laboratory safety by administering laboratory assessments.
Radiation and Laser Safety Program
This program addresses safety precautions for working with lasers and applies radiation safety regulations for radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment.
Bloodborne Pathogen Program
The Bloodborne pathogen program provides support to laboratories that work with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
Industrial Hygiene Program
The Industrial Hygiene Program assists laboratory users with proper respiratory protection and medical monitoring.
SERMCI
Funds are allocated for Safety and Environment Related Minor Capital Improvement (SERMCI) projects on the CSM campus that enhance safety or environmental protection at the University.
CSMRI
CSM is supervising cleanup and remediation of the Colorado School of Mines Research Institute site near Clear Creek.
